Reminders:

  • There will be no school for Teachers' Convention and Family Day from Thursday, February 13 to Monday, February 17. Classes resume on Tuesday, February 18
  • Grade 5/6 Exhibition will be Wednesday, February 26 from 6:00-8:00. Students in each of the three classes have been working with spoken word artist, Kris Demeanor to create and present our collaborate pieces. We are excited to share the work and the process with all of you that evening.
  • Students are observing and recording the moon phases they see each night on their Moon Tracker sheet so they will have a sample from a full lunar cycle.
  • Notice went home this week to inform you that students will be participating in the Accountability Pillar Survey for Capitol Hill School.

ELA Writing: Students are moving from planning a narrative story to writing elements of the story to include content, organization, descriptive language and enhanced vocabulary. This work is ongoing as students prepare to demonstrate their ideas in this written form.

Science: Students are learning about the the moon phases and should be able to tell you about the facts and information they have learned about the moon, or Earth's satellite. They have been demonstrating the movements of earth around the sun, on its axis and the connection to the moon to explain eclipses, seasons, day/night. Every night, students should be getting out to locate and observe the moon to record on their MOON TRACKER sheet.

Social Studies/ELA Reading: students continue to work on finalizing their work for the upcoming exhibition that is now two weeks away. Roles for speaking parts are being arranged and it is important for all students to prepare and perform their parts. Students also have their independent story/poem/speech to present in its final form for February 18-19. This work will be available to view or hear during the exhibition evening. Please view the Social Studies subject link for more information about the process.
