Google Classroom-All ready to go!
This has been quite a week of planning and setting things up in our new online classroom environment in Google Classroom. There are some pieces that still need to be worked out and it will take some time for everyone to get in sync and come up with routines and schedules. Teachers are setting up work for students and we are aware of some of the constraints our families have in accessing work online and working with many others in a household. Other than setting up virtual check in times throughout the week using Google Meet, there will not be any live lessons. As a class and as a grade 5/6 team, we will be setting up regular meet times after this first full week of learning remotely.
Room 2 will have a "practice" Google Meet on Monday, at 10:00-11:00. Students will always be invited into their Google Meet sessions through a link provided to them through their GMAIL account (student@educbe.ca). It is not mandatory for students to attend all of the ones set for the week but it would be great to see the students as it works with the schedule at home. This is why I will provide a morning session and another session in the afternoon on another day. Some sessions will be recorded and posted to review again if it is based on content and student learning. Students were also provided tips on setting up Google Meet as well as etiquette when in the virtual environment. Please review these to troubleshoot at home as well as talk about the guidelines for digital citizenship as they are increasing their time online.
The Google Classroom is set up for weekly assignments for each student for Language Arts (Homeroom Class) and for Math (each Math teacher has set up another section for this). Each student should be enrolled in two sections. Assignments are completed right in the platform without having to download or move files. Every assignment we post will be automatically create a student folder. All that the student needs to do is submit it and click on "Mark as done" button which will always be located on the right side of their screen. We will be going over this during our Google Meets this week. Any additional activities will be posted on this blog in the subject areas. These are not required for classroom work but for those wanting more to do than what has been assigned for the week.
The CBE has set up a web link for up to date information for parents: Learning at Home
Please email me if you have any questions and support during this transition (anmoore@cbe.ab.ca). I will do my best to answer the emails and phone calls (please identify best phone number to reach you and times to call). I also need to take care of myself so I will be keeping office hours as best as possible so I have some downtime from the screen.
We miss seeing the students and being together in our classroom and school. Please take care of yourselves and your family. Reach out if you need support. Again, thank you for your continued support and patience as we go through this transition.
Mrs. Moore
