Online Learning Update
In the spirit of Earth Day on Wednesday, here is a creative activity you can do with your family in your backyard or during a family walk. Watch the recorded reading for "Anywhere Artist" to get inspired. Students have a document in their Google Classroom that provides some visuals for some examples.
I would love to see a picture of your anywhere art that you may do sometime this week in the glorious sunshine. Email them to me by Monday and I will gather the submissions to present at a during next week's Google MEET session and post for others to view in Google Classroom.
Students are reminded that the assignments are being provided at the beginning of the week to be completed the following Monday. Part of online learning is for students to develop their time management skills to fully complete assignments and develop their independent learning habits. Students should be able to work through their assignments by reading and following the provided instructions, complete the work thoroughly and with effort to meet the criteria of the tasks. Students are required to spend 5 hours during the week to complete the assigned work for ELA and MATH. Many students are receiving their marks and feedback from previous week's assignments which can be viewed in the Google Classroom classwork section. Assignments not completed or are submitted with no work entered, obviously, will not meet the grade level criteria.
Looking for extra work for students during the week when their assignments are completed and submitted?
- Students have all been provided IXL access with login information through their math classes and can be used to provide extra practice and support in Math.
- Students also have access to typing tutorials with a TYPING CLUB account which can support the development of correct keyboarding skills.
Next week's Google MEET Schedule:
- For Room 2 will be: Monday, April 27 at 10:00 am AND Thursday, April 30 at 1:00 pm
- Grade 5 Math will be: Wednesday, April 29 at 11:00 am
The code for students to enter the meet will be posted 30 minutes prior to the meeting time in the Google Classroom STREAM.
ELA Upcoming Weekly Work:
- Continue reading across the genres to reach their 40 book goal that we had set out at the beginning of the year. Forms and copies of their reading records are either in Google Classroom or in an email message. Students should still continue to read a minimum of 30 minutes a day.
- Weekly Reading Response to something they have been reading during the week. Students have been doing this all year and are now just transferring their writing into a Google document set up for them every week. There are suggested prompts posted with the assignment.
- Currents4Kids to read the assigned article and complete the quizzes and respond to a topic provided about the event they just read.
- Mini Lessons on specific content for poetry and figurative language
- Boggle- a continuation of the puzzle with 9 letters they have been doing for most of the year. The goal is for students to determine the mystery word and build as many words as possible each week. This is a Google Slide set up for them each week.
Math Current Weekly Work:
(This is updated in each students' Math Classroom Stream. With four classes and four different teachers, if you require specific information, please email your child's math teacher.)
- Review of estimation and operation strategies
- Introduction and review of FRACTIONS (vocabulary and concepts)
