Final Week of October
This second month of school has definitely flown by. We are approaching Halloween which is defintely something most kids are looking forward to at this time of year. Some are not so fortunate and as a grade 5/6 community, we wanted to help out those in need. Thank you to the families who have already brought in donations to help the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter. We have a bin that is filling up, but we want to keep adding to our total number of items.
This week, Room 2 is wrapping up their first science unit with a photobook assignment (Due TODAY, October 25) and a unit test on Thursaday (October 28). Use the links provided in Google classroom and the notes created in class to study and prepare for the unit test.
The student class council have been planning some little events for their classmates to celebrate Halloween and the opportunity to dress up on Friday. Please ensure costumes are appropriate for school (no blood, gore, weapons, or inflatables). If you have questions about the costume, please contact me before Friday. This is an optional event for those who wish to dress up. Looking forward to seeing all the creative and colourful costumes!
Today, we had an opportunity to watch history being made with Mayor Joyti Gondek being officially sworn in. This is a great opportunity to talk with your child about the city and its pressing needs or the services it provides as we continue our studies in municipal government beyond having an election. What is the real work each level of government must do for its citizens? We also would like to use our local government understanding to participate in the CBE/City of Calgary Level Up Design Challenge https://youtu.be/5ieOCZdh0a8 using Minecraft.
If you have any old magazines (glossy pages) that you were planning to recycle, please save and send it with your child back to Room 2. We want to do a project down the road and would like to ensure we have enough materials. Please remove any personal addresses from the magazines before sending them in.
