Early November

Thank you so much to our families for helping us gather over 1200 items to donate to the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter. This was a great event to see our students in Grade 5/6 come together for a great cause.

Students should have a dark green folder with a small notebook inside for their homework, unfinished work, notices and forms from school. This should go home and returned to school each and every day to help students organize themselves and work on student's executive functioning skills. There should be a consent form and a request for volunteers for Alien In-Line due November 10. Photo proofs have also gone home with any orders to be submitted by November 9.

In ELA, students are writing news articles about real events happening around them. We have gone over the format and are now working on our own personal techniques when writing about an event.

In Math, students are working on their addition and subtraction skills using various methods of estimating to ensure their answers are reasonable and practicing using the opposite operation to double check their work. Students are encouraged to continue practicing these skills with regrouping and estimating through their Mathletics account.

Science unit test has been completed and students will receive their marks for the test and other assignments before the end of the week. The next unit will be about "Weather," which would be very interesting given the fact Calgary gets some crazy weather and fast changes!

Remembrance Day is coming up on November 11. Student Learning Conferences will bookend this with evening times on Wednesday, November 10, and the morning on Friday, November 12.

Have a fantastic week!
