Getting Ready for November
I hope this final day of October will be a safe one for everyone if trick or treating is in the plans for this evening. Just a reminder that sugary snacks should be limited at school and should not be shared with other students just like any other food items.
The school calendar has gone out for the upcoming month. Have a look at events and fundraisers to help out our school. There is a CHS sock fundraiser, student picture retakes, in line skating, Remembrance Day assembly, and of course the Parent-Teacher conferences on November 25-26.
Students will be wrapping up the Science unit on Weather soon with a unit test on Tuesday, November 8. There will be a test outline and topics to review posted in the Google Classroom with links to review and practice vocbulary and skills. Our next unit is about Electricity and Mechanisms. If you or someone you know could come in and talk to our class about Electricity, that would be amazing to learn about people in their jobs with the units we study.
In Social Studies, we will be focusing our work on learning about the regions of Canada-physical characteristics and the places that are part of those areas.
Our work in Math will continue to practice reading, writing, representing numbers to a million, comparing numbers, estimating, looking at patterns again, while incorporating more of the four operations. With continued practice and review, students will feel more confident to apply these skills to problem solving, smaller projects, and into other units throughout the year. So keep on working on them! Links are provided on Google Classroom for additional practice and review.
In Language Arts, we will continue to work on reading comprehension skills and writing with the focus on the revision process. We will be working through a whole class novel study to develop their understanding of the words they read. Using these skills with writing will enhance student work throughout the year.
