May Showers bring More Flowers????
The grade 5s have been busy with many things but are also shadowing the grade 6s for leadership opportunities to finish the current school year and help out with the start of the next year. Crazy to think that summer break is less than 2 months away!
On Friday, May 12, the grade 5s and their grade 1 buddies from Mr. Evan's room will be doing a community walk to Confederation Park from 9:30-12:30. We are looking for a minimum of three volunteers to join us on what should be a warm, dry day! Please let me know as soon as possible if you are able to join us!
Updated on May 12: Thank you to Charlee and Kelly for joining us on our community walk through Confederation Park. It appears the mosquitos have come out in full force! It was great to get outside and use our "other" classroom for the morning!
Curriculum Updates:
Math-(Mrs. Moore's group) we are working on decimals and fractions before moving on to statistics (making different graphs using first hand and second had data, interpreting data, using data for information) and probability (the chance of an event occuring). Students will continue to review all concepts to do a comprehensive test to see what areas of the curriculum they may still need more support with.
Science- Students are well into the concepts of Classroom Chemistry as we move into doing experiements and understanding the scientific method/process. Ask students about homogenous and heterogenous mixtures, some properties of water, and some simple solutions!
Social Studies-Students are using texts to research Canadian History, Events and People. We have been travelling through time to understand Early Canada (1600s to pre-Confederation), Canada's first 100 years (1850-1967), and Present Canada and beyond (1970 and beyond).
English Language Arts- students are working on poetry as a reading and writing workshop over the past few weeks. They are creating a published book of their own poetry, an information poster for figurative language, and their responses to poems they read in class. This is due, Thursday, May 25. Different types of poetry forms are posted in Google Classroom as a reference, but students are able to create their own too.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
