Weekly Update-December 4
Hello Parents and Guardians,
December came around pretty quick but there are so many things to do this month!
Please join us on Thursday, December 7, between 3:30-4:15 pm or 5:00-6:00 pm to celebrate the two-month Artist is Residency work with Ewa Sniatycka. You are invited to tour the school and visit all the classes to view the learning that has been undertaken in the Grounding in Nature school wide project. The students in room 2 are excited to show you their work both on the bulletin boards outside of the classroom and a special spot in the classroom.
Math: Students will be working through vocabulary and skills to determine patterns and relationships between numbers, variables in equations, as well as continuing to practice and use the operations they have been working on but in word problems. We will be moving towards division strategies soon, so remember to keep practicing the multiplication facts!
Social Studies:Students are working on their final few periods to complete their assigned Regions of Canada group project which is due on Friday, December 15. Students do an oral presentation, provide a slideshow to be shared with their classmates, and a visual project the group decided on. There will be a unit test on this information on Wednesday, December 20.
Grade 5 Walk of Gratitude will be during the afternoon on Thursday, December 14 where we will be walking within a three block radius of the school to drop off cards to our Capitol Hill community neighbours. It is way to give back and make someone's’ day a little brighter! Please ensure students are prepared for the weather and the walk that day. We do not require volunteers for this walk.
REMEMBER:
There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, December 8 for Teacher Professional Learning
Please inform the classroom teacher and the office if your child will be absent from school. There have been a number of late students arriving to classes, we begin promptly at 8:30 am and 12:30 pm everyday.
We are looking for parent volunteers for the February 2024 skiing trip. Sign up online in Sign up Genius, if you have a current volunteer police check and clearance. We need six other adults for each of the three days to make the trip possible. ALL parents signing up MUST have a current volunteer security clearance through the Calgary Police Service and complete the annual form for each school.
