Earth Day Challenge 2026

Every year, students who have gone through Room 2 with me have always been asked to do more for taking care of their place. The challenge is to highlight and talk about the ways we can make small contributions together for a bigger impact.

Creating a visual journal page to include at least 20 ways we can take care of our only Earth.

Working on using multimedia to create this page. Students combined wax crayon resist with watercolour paints create their little planet.

Room 2 students spent the whole day without using electricity. This meant no lights were turned on and no use of technology for the entire day.

While working in the classroom, we challenged ourselves to reduce our garbage in the trash bin.  The challenge was to start and end with an empty trash bin in our classroom. It was a tough challenge but they planned their day with intention and are proud to say they did it! They learned about the need for recycling to avoid filling the landfills and having garbage hurting the animals and nearby waterways.

Students wrote their own poems or found poems that connected with the earth to share with their classmates in the natural amphitheatre.

Time was also spent in the Geodome to get our seeds planted in our designated garden bin.

Planting our seeds. Hoping for a crop of carrots, corn, tomatillos as well as flowers for our front garden space. We will do another planting of lettuce and beans to round out our garden bin inside the geodome. Stay tuned for updates to our growth.

Students spent almost the entire morning of Earth Day on the land.

Working with others to help take care of the land.

Being a good mentor to our younger friends as we learn to take care of place together.

The whole gang with our 7 bags of collected garbage from the field and the front of the school. We had help from our Grade 2 buddies from Ms. Adharsingh's class too.
